چکیده

According t for notifiable The aim of the EU ACUTEX project is to develop a methodology for establishing European Acute Exposure Threshold Levels (EU AETLs) for toxic substances in relation to harm to people by inhalation. Their development is initially in the context of the EU ‘Seveso II’ Directive through which the risks of major accidents from chemical sites are regulated. This paper discusses the potential value of AETLs for emergency planning in the UK. The paper then describes the prioritisation of 21 substances for AETL case studies based on an EU stakeholder consultation exercise. It also outlines progress on the subsequent development of a prioritisation methodology to inform initial substance selection for a possible further AETLs program.

House of Improvement Model to Enhance Prioritisation of Solutions in Decision Making: a Case Study

The decision making on selection of improvement solutions was one of the obstacles hampering the success of process improvement. This paper presents the House of Improvement (HOI) model as a guideline to link decision criteria for the prioritisation of improvement solutions. Three phases in the HOI are applied to facilitate selection and to ensure that suitable and value-added solutions are cho...

Investigation of acute dermal irritation/corrosion, acute inhalation toxicity and cytotoxicity tests for Nanobiocide®

Objective(s): Nanomaterials, especially silver Nanoparticles (Ag-NPs), are employed in an increasing number of commercial products. This has led to an ever growing exposure of human beings to this substance. The first purpose of the Nano Committee of Food and Drug Administration of The Islamic Republic of Iran (IFDA) is developing guidelines to assess and approve commerci...

A Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach with Interval Numbers for Evaluating Project Risk Responses

The risk response development is one of the main phases in the project risk management that has major impacts on a large-scale project’s success. Since projects are unique, and risks are dynamic through the life of the projects, it is necessary to formulate responses of the important risks. Conventional approaches tend to be less effective in dealing with the imprecise of the risk response deve...

Acute Toxicity and the Effects of Copper Sulphate (CuSO4.5H2O) on the Behavior of the Black Fish (Capoeta Fusca)

Background: The development of toxicity tests regarding toxic responses of different fish species could be more effectively used in predictive toxicology and risk assessment. In this study lethal concentrations (LC50-96 h) values of copper sulphate an important toxic industrial pollutant, on Capoeta fusca were determined. Behavioral changes at different concentrations of CuSO4 were determine...

Comparing ecological risks of pesticides: the utility of a Risk Quotient ranking approach across refinements of exposure.

Environmental risk assessment of pesticides and other chemicals often uses the Risk Quotient (RQ) method to characterize risk quantitatively. An RQ is calculated by dividing an environmental exposure value by a toxicity end-point value. Tier 1 RQs, which are characterized by highly conservative toxicity and exposure assumptions, are used primarily for screening out negligible risks in regulator...
